Kickstart your career in behavior therapy with our ABA courses! Our ABAT/IBT (Applied Behavior Analysis Technician / International Behavior Therapist) certification provides the essential skills to deliver effective interventions and support individuals with behavioral challenges.
Requirements
- Candidates must be at least 18 years old.
- A minimum of a high school diploma or its national equivalent is required.
- Completion of 40 hours of approved ABA coursework, which includes:
- At least 3 hours dedicated to ethics.
- A minimum of 5 hours focused on autism core knowledge.
- Training Specifications:
- Completed within the last 5 years.
- Developed or delivered by a master's level licensed professional specializing in ABA and autism.
- Candidates are required to complete 15 hours of supervised fieldwork.
- For every 10 hours of independent supervised fieldwork, candidates must receive 1 hour of supervision.
- A recommendation from the candidate's supervisor is necessary.
- Candidates must undergo a criminal background check conducted by QABA's third-party provider or provide evidence from an employer confirming no change in status since the last background check.
- Successful completion of the accredited ABAT exam proctored by Examity is required.
- Candidates must agree to adhere to the QABA Code of Ethics and fulfill all renewal requirements.
Ongoing Supervision Requirements
- Meet with their supervisor for 5% of the time they provide direct services to clients every 30-day period.
- While the 5% supervision can be conducted remotely using HIPAA-compliant video conferencing software, at least one session must be in-person or live via video conferencing for a minimum of one hour.

- Grasp Principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA):
- Identify three basic principles of behaviorism.
- Define antecedents, behaviors, and consequences as a three-part contingency.
- Identify the goals of ABA.
- Define and provide examples of pairing.
- Define Motivating Operation (MO) and its use in skill acquisition and behavior reduction interventions as a four-part contingency.
- Define stimulus, response, stimulus class, response class, and stimulus control.

- Training on ethical considerations in ABA practice.
- Foundational understanding of autism, including diagnostic criteria, characteristics, and common interventions.
- Comprehensive coverage of behaviorism principles, including reinforcement, punishment, and behavior modification techniques.
- Instruction on continuous data collection techniques, such as frequency recording, episodic severity, and duration recording, as well as discontinuous data collection techniques like momentary time sampling.
- Development and implementation of behavior intervention plans, including skill acquisition and behavior reduction strategies.
- Guidelines on maintaining professionalism, understanding the scope of practice, and collaborating effectively with other professionals and stakeholders.
